Dreams and Wishes for our Neighborhood

posted Jan 19, 2020, 10:01 AM by Sherwood Estates

At our  Annual Meeting in December our attending residents had the opportunity to share their "Dreams and Wishes" for our neighborhood.   We're in the process of creating action plans to help improve Sherwood Estates and enhance the homeowner experience.

It's not too late - if you have ideas, or suggestions, let us know.

Dog vs Postman

posted Jan 19, 2020, 9:59 AM by Sherwood Estates

Last week our postal carrier was bitten by a roaming German Shepard dog (on Chouteau Drive).  This is the third "dog versus postman" incident in our neighborhood within the past few months   It has occurred on both the East and West side of Chouteau Trafficway.  The results are suspension of mail delivery in the area until the matter is settled with the Post Office, City, and Animal Control.    The post office will notify you if you are impacted.

If this continues - the consequences could become more severe.  We've heard, but not officially, that they make force to install community mailboxes (like the example below).  Please, please, do not let our neighborhood get a reputation of having uncontrolled dogs.   It injuries walkers, leashed pets on a stroll, and delivery drivers.   And most of us don't want to have our mail delivered to a common location -- away from our Sherwood Estates home.

4th of July

posted Jun 30, 2019, 1:08 PM by Sherwood Estates

The city is providing "Trash Amnesty" on your trash day AFTER the 4th of July holiday.   This means that you can set up to 15 bags of trash out without using additional tags.   The normal rules apply:  no lawn materials, tires, hazardous waste, bulky items.
  • East of Chouteau Trafficway:   4th of July Holiday will delay the Friday pickup this week.   So your amnesty date is Saturday, July 6th.
  • West of Chouteau Trafficway:   Your amnesty day is your normal Tuesday pick-up, July 9th.
This is your annual reminder that it is illegal to use, possess, or sell fireworks in Kansas City, Mo.  Here is what the ordinance says:

Sec. 26-5608.16. Prohibition of Fireworks.

Sec. 26-5608.16.1. Sale, use and possessing; Definition.

(a) Except as hereinafter provided, it shall be unlawful for any person to possess, keep, store, offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail, use or explode any fireworks in the city.

(b) For the purposes of this section, the term fireworks shall mean and include any combustible or explosive composition, or any substances or combination of substances, or article prepared for the purposes of producing a visible or an audible effect by combustion or explosion, in which explosives are used, firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, roman candles, sparklers or other fireworks of like construction, and any fireworks containing explosive or flammable compound, or any tablets or other devices regulated by the US Department of Transportation as a regulated firework.

Celebratory gunfire absolutely is prohibited and you should call 911 if you hear gunshots.

There will be some large public fireworks displays that we can hear in Sherwood Estates so if you have pets, please watch them closely.   Some will be frightened by the noise and may jump your fence or attempt to escape.

Everyone, including your pets, have a safe 4th of July holiday.
