08/12/2019 - Curbside Chipper
09/21/2019 - Dumpster Day

Both of of these events are paid for with your annual Homes Association dues.

Details for each --
Curbside Chipping - haul your limbs and branches to your curb no earlier than Saturday, August 10th.   Our contracted team will start at 7am Monday, August 12th.  It will take them 2-3 days to get through the entire neighborhood.    No leaf bags, no construction wood, no rocks or concrete that will damage the chipper.   The maximum diameter of the branch is 4 inches.  No restriction on the length.

Dumpster Day -- 48th Terr & Sherwood Drive and 47th Terr & College Ave  - Saturday 8am until noon or whenever they're full.  Proof of residency required and must be current on annual dues.   No yard waste, TV's, tires, hazardous waste, appliances, or paint allowed.   We need volunteers for this event so please contact the office if you can assist.

4th of July

posted Jun 30, 2019, 1:08 PM by Sherwood Estates

The city is providing "Trash Amnesty" on your trash day AFTER the 4th of July holiday.   This means that you can set up to 15 bags of trash out without using additional tags.   The normal rules apply:  no lawn materials, tires, hazardous waste, bulky items.
  • East of Chouteau Trafficway:   4th of July Holiday will delay the Friday pickup this week.   So your amnesty date is Saturday, July 6th.
  • West of Chouteau Trafficway:   Your amnesty day is your normal Tuesday pick-up, July 9th.
This is your annual reminder that it is illegal to use, possess, or sell fireworks in Kansas City, Mo.  Here is what the ordinance says:

Sec. 26-5608.16. Prohibition of Fireworks.

Sec. 26-5608.16.1. Sale, use and possessing; Definition.

(a) Except as hereinafter provided, it shall be unlawful for any person to possess, keep, store, offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail, use or explode any fireworks in the city.

(b) For the purposes of this section, the term fireworks shall mean and include any combustible or explosive composition, or any substances or combination of substances, or article prepared for the purposes of producing a visible or an audible effect by combustion or explosion, in which explosives are used, firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, roman candles, sparklers or other fireworks of like construction, and any fireworks containing explosive or flammable compound, or any tablets or other devices regulated by the US Department of Transportation as a regulated firework.

Celebratory gunfire absolutely is prohibited and you should call 911 if you hear gunshots.

There will be some large public fireworks displays that we can hear in Sherwood Estates so if you have pets, please watch them closely.   Some will be frightened by the noise and may jump your fence or attempt to escape.

Everyone, including your pets, have a safe 4th of July holiday.

Funding Available for Home Repairs

posted May 19, 2019, 4:56 PM by Sherwood Estates

Earlier this year Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. (NNI) held a meeting to share various Grants and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) available to Northland homeowners.  Then last month your Homes Association Board of Directors invited NNI to speak at our board meeting and we had about 20 residents in attendance.

If you did not participate in either of these opportunities, we still want you know about "free money" that's available for Home Maintenance/Repairs (interior and/or exterior). The attached file reflects a few grants that are available and you are free to apply to as many that you are eligible for.  One program is specific to our neighborhood (Antioch TIF).  Up to $10,000 per home is available, if you quality.  In summary, it can be a grant (does not need to be repaid - with conditions) for lower income households or if you make too much the grant can be matching funds for your home repairs.

The funding is not for improvements (additions, enhancements, new features, etc.) it's for repair, or maintenance, of existing items (windows, siding, furnace, plumbing, foundation repair, etc).

If you have any questions, please contact Mary at NNI (454-2000).   Mary is also the person that you would submit your application and documentation.

Please remember to submit any Exterior Alterations to your Homes Association for final approval prior to construction.  The Exterior Alteration Form (EAF) is available on our website (under Forms) or in the office Monday - Wednesday 10am to 2pm.

Recent storms brought many limbs and branches down due to the heavy snow.  The City of Kansas City will help residents deal with tree limbs broken off during January winter storms by initiating a special curbside pickup to collect these fallen branches.  Residents need to contact the 311 Center to submit their address for this special collection. The deadline for contacting 311 is 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, to be placed on the collection list and the guidelines are in the following link.
